Contemporary Psychoanalysis in NY
It can be a daunting task to start psychotherapy, please take your time to read through my site and please feel free to contact me with any questions.
Some of my thoughts on the therapeutic process:
Therapy offers the time and experience to work through feelings of anxiousness, depression, lostness, emptiness, and overwhelm.
We do therapy to identify psychological and relational structures that have painful effects. We work understand how to grow from these structures, and disintegrate the grips of dysfunction. This often leads us to more freedom and peace.
The relationship we have to ourselves is an enormous influence on the choices we make (or don’t make) and how we understand the world around us. Yet, the relationship with self often remains misunderstood or ignored. I believe starting a therapeutic process is a choice that opens a door to a new way of experiencing ourself and our lives.
We do therapy to develop the psychological and emotional capacities for to have a life that is aligned with our hopes.
We often try to self reflect to find that we end up in circles or the transformation we are looking for keeps evading us. Therapy is a process meant to use our two minds to get to the transformation we are looking for.
We find transformation by working communicate experiences that we’ve (consciously and unconsciously) used to form beliefs about ourselves. Exploring those beliefs in an atmosphere of nonjudgemental openness and can provide the relational experience needed to foster greater ease, wholeness and meaning in life.
About Me:
I work in a way that is specific to you and what you want from therapy because I believe therapy can range in its form and function; it evolves as you evolve. Transactionalism and standardization does not work in therapy, we are complex beings with a need to be understood on a deep level to find healing. For that reason I’ve committed myself to thoughtful practice of psychoanalytic psychotherapy. I’m always participating in new trainings and integrating the latest research into my work. I hope that even if you feel uncomfortable about starting or reaching out that you choose to come as you are, anyway.
I am a licensed psychoanalyst with a Masters degree in Social Work from NYU. I currently supervise training psychotherapists and teach at two psychoanalytic training programs, at Institute for Contemporary Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Study Center. I am influenced by Jungian and Relational frameworks. This means I see myself as an active participant in our relationship and I see myself as accountable to how I use myself in our work.
I’ve always been deeply attuned and empathic to the human experience which is natural presence that I bring to the room. I value the search for peacefulness and joy in life and I love my work as a facilitator in healing and transformation. I am committed to bringing effective and contemporary approaches into your therapy.
